Apple is likely to launch its foldable iPhone as early as 2026, following the footsteps of rival Samsung Electronics which released similar smartphones in 2019.
Apple hasn’t confirmed officially when it will release a foldable iPhone.
According to Reuters, the premier smartphone-maker has moved forward from its ideation state for the foldable version of iPhone, finding suppliers in Asia, and having developed an internal code-name V68 for the product.
The AI-enabled smartphones are expected to create demand for the iPhone-maker, which faces hard competition from Huawei in China and Samsung globally.
Samsung launched its latest foldable smartphones in July this year, which was the costliest flagship model equipped with new AI feature.
The global foldable smartphone market grew by 49 per cent from a year earlier, which was the highest increase in six quarters, according to a Counterpoint Research report.
Apple also wants to bring an upgrade to the camera of at least one iPhone model, which will allow users to control the size of the aperture with a mechanical system.
