Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg ventured for a skirmish on the AI frontier on Wednesday, when in a video post on Instagram he declared his company's Quest 3 superior to Apple’s Vision Pro.
"I don’t think that Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product, period," Zuckerberg said in the video.
Zuckerberg filmed the video using Quest’s High Resolution Mixed Reality Passthrough camera and highlighted features of the product while also drawing a contrast with Apple’s Vision Pro.
He said Quest 3 weighs 120 grams less which makes it more comfortable to wear for longer duration. He also said that having no wires around makes movement easier in Quest 3. A wider field of view is another cherry on the top.
He claimed Apple’s headsets have motion blur while Quest 3 is way crisper. While he acknowledged Apple's higher resolution screen, he claimed the tradeoff was not worth for its compromised the overall quality.
Zuckerberg said that in terms of input, both Quest and Vision Pro support handtracking but found Quest to be more accurate. He claimed Quest has deeper immersive content library than Apple.
The Facebook founder said people may have assumed that Vision Pro would be higher quality because of Apple’s brand name associated with it, along the fact that it costs $3000 more (approximately Rs 25,000), but that is not the case.
Quest 3 is "like seven times less expensive" with much more things to offer, Zuckerberg boasted.
"In this next generation, Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again. The future is not yet written," he said.
Launched earlier this year, Apple Vision is quite the rage, having sold more than 200,000 units by early February. The device costs around Rs 2.8 lakh in India.
