Telegram bolsters AI sticker search, video timestamp feature

Messaging app Telegram has introduced a set of new features including an expansion of its AI-powered sticker search.

The app, which launched an AI sticker and emoji search feature in December with 40,000 icons, has now expanded their number to many millions generated by the users.

The feature – available in 29 languages such as Hindi, Arabic, and Spanish – will allow users to search for stickers by simply typing in the desired words, like a 'thinking monkey' and 'space dog' to get the stickers.

In a blog it published on Wednesday, the firm also announced the launch of a feature which will allow users to publish the timestamp with a video link where they'd want a person to start watching the video.

Telegram already has the feature to share the timestamp  in replies and captions.

"When sharing a link to a video on Telegram in chats or on other platforms, you can now include the current timestamp in the link. When someone taps on the link, it will open the video in Telegram to that exact moment," the company said in its blog.

Telegram has also launched a feature that allows users to choose a cover photo for any video they may share in their stories or elsewhere. One can also add text, captions and emojis before selecting the cover image.

A user needs to tap the three-dot icon in the top corner of the video editor and select 'Edit Cover' to add the over image.

The company, started by Russia-born Pavel Durov, is also adding support for users to save progress on a video. The feature allows one to resume watching a clip from where one left off.

Telegram has over the years earned a notorious reputation for hosting pirated and other illegal video content on the app. The company removed 15 million groups and channels last year.

The company, according to reports, came under investigation by Indian authorities last August over allegations of allowing extortion and gambling.

The development came in the wake of the arrest of Telegram founder Durov outside Paris by the French authorities over the app's moderation policies.
