TikTok has gone off in the US as a result of a federal order banning the Chinese short video app.
The app became unavailable to millions of US users from late Saturday night. It was no longer there on Apple or Google Play app stores either.
"Sorry, TikTok isn't available right now," the company's message reads. "A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the US. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now."
The message indicated that the ban may be temporary and a future discussion with President-elect Donald Trump may bring the app back onto people's phones. ".... he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office."
The company had earlier announced that the app would no longer be available unless President Joe Biden's administration made a "definitive statement" offsetting the ruling.
The House and the Senate had last April passed a law requiring TikTok owner ByteDance to either sell the app or see it banned in the country over surveillance concerns.
Trump has asked the Supreme Court to delay the ban and said he would "most likely" give the company a 90-day extension.
TikTok remains banned in India.
