Trump says will seek Google's prosecution if returns to power

Donald Trump, who is seeking his second term as the US President, on Friday said he will seek Google's prosecution if he returns to power for displaying only "bad stories" about him.

Trump, who made the remark on his site Truth Social, cited no evidence behind his claim.

"It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris," Trump said.

The Republican presidential candidate termed Google's alleged behaviour an "illegal activity" and hoped the Justice Department will criminally prosecute the tech firm.

"If not, and subject to the laws of our country, I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the election, and become president of the United States," he said.

Trump made a similar claim about Google in 2019, according to the Washington Post.

In a series of posts on X, then Twitter, Trump claimed Google aired negative news stories about him in the 2016 presidential election.

The US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5.
