AI chatbot Grok is now available to all users on X, having earlier been restricted to only Premium users.
The change was noticed on Friday, however, xAI, the company arm which built the chatbot, had no announcements to make.
People on X shared screenshots of the changes, showing they were allowed to send up to 10 messages to Grok every two hours and generate three images per day. After that, they were asked to subscribe to the Premium version of the X app.
Grok was built at xAI, an Elon Musk-founded lab, launched to compete with OpenAI, Google and other market players already ahead in the game with their own AI chatbots.
It was made open source in March this year, to democratise AI development and to show the way tech rivals.
In August, Musk launched Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini – two new models with upgraded performance and new image-generation capabilities.
xAI, which raised $6 billion in its latest funding round, is considering launching an app for Grok — something ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude already have.
