Users on X who have blocked someone will now be able to see what the person has written in comments to their posts, according to new update in the Elon Musk-owned app's block feature.
While the change stops short of meeting Musk's outspoken desire to abolish the feature entirely, X is focusing on refining the visibility of replies within the context of a block.
Previously, if a user was blocked by someone on X, they could still reply to their posts without the blocker knowing. However, users will now be able to see direct replies from accounts they've blocked, even if they're unaware of the block.
X’s engineering team in a post on X wrote, "If a user who has blocked your replies to one of your posts, you will now be able to see their reply. This change enables you to identify and report any potential bad content that you previously could not view, safeguarding both your account and the overall integrity of our platform."
It added, "These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to aligning the block feature with our principles as a public town square. Our goal is to allow users to control their experience while maintaining the public visibility of posts."
The move seems to align with standpoint of Musk, who has on multiple occasions said that a public-facing "block" feature "makes no sense."
Last year, Musk wrote in a post, "Block is going to be deleted as a 'feature', except for DMs."
