Xiaomi asks CCI to recall Flipkart report on collusive business practices

Chinese electronics firm Xiaomi has asked the CCI to recall its report that alleged the company colluded with Walmart's Flipkart for exclusive sale on the e-commerce site, saying it contains commercial secrets.

The report comes from an investigation the Competition Commission of India launched in 2021 into business practices of Amazon and Flipkart.

The watchdog had in August recalled its report on Apple after the company made similar complaints.

Smartphone maker Xiaomi has told the commission that the investigation report on Flipkart contains sensitive data which was not redacted when the document was shared with parties in the case, reported Reuters, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Xiaomi claims the report contains its model-wise sales which is sensitive information.

According to the norm, the commission does not make investigation reports public and only shares them with parties to the case.

The Indian watchdog recently in a report found that e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart gave preference to select sellers, including Xiaomi, to launch phones exclusively on their websites.

According to Counterpoint, Samsung and Xiaomi, together, hold an almost 36 per cent market share, with China's Vivo covering 19 per cent.

Xiaomi in its application to the CCI requested it to ask the parties to return the report and destroy any copies, and reshare it after redaction.
